Name: Anna Hunanyan
Year: 2L
Affinity Group: Middle Eastern Law Students Association (MELSA); Co-President
Undergraduate Institution:
UCLA, BA Business Economics, BA Comparative Literature
Experiences between college and law school:
I took a year off before starting law school. I spent half of that year working as a financial analyst and the other half as a legal assistant.
Favorite event that your organization plans:
Every semester MELSA invites a speaker to discuss a timely and relevant issue concerning the Middle East. We have had cutting edge thinkers engage the BC Law community on topics such as free speech and hate speech, the Armenian Genocide, and the development of ISIS in Iraq and Syria. We have been lucky to host speakers with diverse backgrounds and experiences coming from different parts of the world. The perspective they bring and share is thought-provoking.
Favorite event a different organization plans:
I am a huge fan of BLSA’s culture shock events. Regardless of your background, I think this event makes you reexamine and think critically about how you perceive the world around you.
Activities at BC Law (besides being in your organization):
Business and Law Society
Favorite class:
Contracts with Professor Rogers
Summer Employment:
1L summer: Judicial Intern for U.S. Bankruptcy Court
2L summer: Summer Associate at Weil, Gotshal & Manges
What will you do after graduation?
I hope to continue working at Weil.
Why law school?
I’ve always been attracted to the legal field because no matter what you choose to pursue, a legal education gives you the tools to take on meaningful work in service to others.
Why BC Law?
I wanted to attend a law school where I could be part of a supportive collegial environment and also have a rigorous academic experience. I found BC to be the best fit.
What most surprised you about BC Law when you got here?
I was surprised at how enthusiastic everyone was to help each other succeed. Professors, upperclassmen, and alumni go out of their way to give guidance and my peers were also really supportive. I was also surprised to find a strong community of diverse students who work together to make BC Law a welcoming environment for students of all backgrounds.
This new “Meet the” series introduces you to the diverse affinity student group leaders on campus.
