This weekend’s bitter cold reminded me of a three-day storm long in the past that makes our modern Nor’easters look positively quaint. On March 11-14, 1888, the “Great White Hurricane” buried the Northeast under 50 inches of snow coupled with 85 mph winds. According to contemporary account in the New York Evening Sun, “It came in whirls, it descended in layers, it shot along in great blocks, it rose and fell and corkscrewed and zigzagged and played merry havoc with everything it could swing or batter or bang or carry away.”

Capturing the First Snow Day at BC Law
When it rains it pours. Or in this case, when it snows it… you know, snows more.
Students woke up to a different view than usual this morning, as a thick blanket of snow covered our surroundings for the first time this year. Even in the midst of dead week blues, I could not help but grin at the sight of my snow laden-neighborhood this morning.
This is the first place that I have lived that gets regular snow, so I took a moment to stop and take in my new “normal” on my morning commute, capturing the sights of the classic Boston winter weather I have heard so much about.
Law Revue Is Coming
Happy Friday the 13th! Given the unbelievable amount of snow we’ve had recently, I’m celebrating mine with a pair of make-up classes to kick off the weekend.
In lieu of a really in-depth post about career paths, social justice, or anything really heavy, I thought I’d lighten the mood a bit by reminding everyone – law revue is not far away!
I don’t have an exact date for when the new video(s) will drop (I hear it’s soon), but since last year’s hasn’t been posted on this blog yet, now seems like the perfect time to embed it. Enjoy!
Ski Trip: A Snowy Retreat
This weekend was the annual BC Law Ski Trip organized by the Law Student Association. It’s a fun break from Boston and gives students a great chance to relax and unwind in the mountains of Vermont. As a 3L, this was my third and final Ski Trip, and I definitely enjoyed it:
One of the highlights of the weekend was going to a local bar to enjoy some live music:
Life at BC Law: Snowpocalypse
Having gone to college in southern California and grown up in the Pacific Northwest people often ask me how I’m adjusting to the weather in Boston. While it can be hard to beat year-round access to an outdoor pool (thank you Scripps College) I’ve held up just fine in the New England. I love seeing the seasons change, and after some extensive Amazon shopping for new cold weather accessories I can honestly say that I look forward to the winter time here. The cold and snow can actually be kind of fun- especially when we get a snow day!
