The ‘C’ in BC Law stands for Catering: My Favorite Club Event Food

Due to SNAP benefits being suspended, millions of people across the nation are at increased risk for food insecurity. If you or someone you know is affected, resources include: The Massachusetts SNAP Resource Hub, Project Bread, Newton Food Pantry, and Brookline Food Pantry.

The BC Law Weekly Headlines Nov. 3 email lists out more resources.

As we approach the end of the semester, we also approach a time for decision-making and looking ahead. No, I’m not talking about choosing spring classes or a finals study spot. I’m talking about something much more important: what to eat for lunch.

You can’t be an effective student on an empty stomach, and as it gets harder and harder to find the time to meal prep, I am taking my stand and declaring what my favorite, organization-sponsored catering options are.

For all the clubs whose generosity I have benefited from when completing this ranking, thank you. Please keep this list in mind when planning your future events.

Before we begin, a few quick disclaimers:

Note 1: I am a pescatarian – I do not eat red meat or poultry. Some likely fan favorites will therefore not make the ranking. I do not weep for those fan favorites. They can learn to utilize tofu, beans, or cheese. If you are unhappy about this, I refer you to Note 2.

Note 2: My lunch opinions are not open to democratic influence. Maybe one day I will release a poll, but today is not that day. If this list inspires you to argue with me, I welcome the engagement, but please make it funny.

Here, in no particular order, are my top four (plus one bonus)!

Pho Viet’s

For the record, I have dreamed about Pho Viet’s tofu sandwich. These sandwiches draw a crowd—and for good reason! They are filling and delicious, packed with pickled vegetables, tofu (there are also chicken, pork, and beef options), and jalapeno. The mayo on the sandwich (at least, I think it is mayo) is also delicious, and keeps the bread from being too dry. I could go on, but the moral of the story is that it’s always a good day when Pho Viet’s is catering.

Four Spoons Thai

Tofu pad thai? Delicious. Avocado in Garden Fresh Roll? Beautiful. Scallion Pancakes? Sign me up. I also had a delightful shrimp curry last week. Whenever Four Spoons is being served, I am not far away. Having scanned their catering menu, I can say with confidence that they have a lot of options for people who do not eat meat, which is great for me, personally. And as someone who has eaten some of these meat-free options, I can say with confidence that they are an excellent catering choice.

Fiorella’s

It’s November, and the temperature is dropping, which means what I often want more than anything is a bowl of pasta (that I didn’t have to cook). In addition to delicious pasta, Fiorella’s catering also has the option to get these strips of garlic bread (upon viewing the menu, I believe it is the garlic breadsticks), accompanied by marinara sauce for dipping. The number of times I (starving) have walked into the Law Student Lounge and walked out (overjoyed) with a cup filled to the brim with garlic breadsticks, toasted ravioli, and marinara sauce is quite frankly embarrassing. This, however, will not dissuade me from future, toasted ravioli-related expeditions.

Pressed

Sometimes, you just want a sandwich. Pressed Cafe makes great sandwiches. Also, the lunch Pressed supplies are substantial—in my experience, (thank you, Rappaport Center) there’s usually a sandwich, a side salad, and a cookie. The vegetarian sandwiches don’t taste like they were made for a rabbit, which is a win as far as I am concerned.

Bonus: La Fonda Street

A very trusted source (fellow Impact Blog writer Alex Staller) has informed me that La Fonda Street, a Brighton restaurant that serves Latin American cuisine, is also a fantastic catering option. Alex said she enjoyed their food at a Latin American Law Students Association event and provided photographic evidence of a delicious-looking lunch. Though, in full transparency, I have never eaten at La Fonda, Alexandra has reliably informed me (and the picture shows) that La Fonda has plantains. As plantains are one of my top five favorite foods (I am eating some as I write this), La Fonda automatically gets the bonus mention.
