Name: Timothy St. Pierre

Hometown: Brunswick, Maine

Educational Background: Swarthmore College (2021, Political Science, French & Francophone Studies)

What did you do before coming to law school?

I was at the Suffolk County DA’s Office, which covers Boston and a few neighboring municipalities. I worked as a victim advocate, initially on behalf of all violent crime at the district court level and then on behalf of rape and sexual assault survivors at the superior court level.

Why did you decide to go to law school? And why BC Law?

I never thought that I would go to law school, but I had the chance to work alongside a lot of phenomenal attorneys at the DA’s Office who really prioritized advocacy and compassion in their work with victims and survivors. Having the chance to work alongside survivors and attorneys as they built their cases gave me an appreciation for how important the law is as a tool for resolving wrongs and helping people rebuild their lives.

I chose BC Law because I knew I wanted to stay in Boston and be close to my family back home in Maine, but also because every attorney I met who had gone to BC had nothing but positive memories of the education they received and the community they built here. People prioritize each other and approach each other with respect and an open mind. Organizations like Lambda have been crucial in developing a strong and supportive group of peers and friends.

How have your past experiences informed your law school experience and future career interests?

Being an attorney is about effective communication and client advocacy. I think that the experience of working with survivors navigating some of the worst moments of their lives, and having to respond to survivors’ different emotional needs and cultural contexts, has helped me to engage with clients in a comprehensive and nuanced way. I think that it’s important to always remember that there is a personal element to a case beyond the legal issue, and this helps you see the full context. I’ll be going into labor and employment litigation after graduation, and this is especially true with issues affecting people’s livelihoods and their relationships in the workplace.
