Get to Know Us: Teaching and Research Librarians

This guest post is by BC Law’s Teaching and Research Librarians.

You know to go to CSO with your career planning questions. Student Services to iron out your schedule. And of course Legal Grounds when you need that afternoon energy boost. But where do you go when you have a question about research at BC Law?

We are the Teaching and Research Librarians of BC Law, and we are here to save you so much time.

About Us

T&R Librarians hold law degrees as well as a Masters in Library Science (JD/MLS). We have years of experience in law school and law firm libraries. Our specialties include legal history, transactional practice, foreign, international, tax, criminal law and procedure, intellectual property, immigration and environmental legal research.

You may wonder – When can T&R help you? How can T&R help you?

Working on a research paper

Come talk to us to get tips and strategies to tackle your papers this semester. We can point you to great resources which can get you off to a fast start. As a BC Law student, you have access to databases galore outside of Westlaw and Lexis. T&R can show you shortcuts for efficient research. Time is your most valuable asset in law school. Our expertise can help you get the research for your project wrapped up quickly. Then you can spend your time on analysis and writing, where the money is, or perhaps more accurately, the grade is.

Out on the job or at an internship

Imagine this – you are out at your job this summer, and get asked to do a legal research memo. You have no idea where to start your research, so you start Googling, searching Westlaw and Lexis, and when you look up, two hours have passed and you are no closer to an answer than when you started.

Want your own personal legal research consultant? Someone who can walk you through your research, step by step? Point you to the key resources for your project? Keep you from spinning your wheels or getting lost in the weeds? How about all of that for FREE, no client bill back?

Think the library is closed all summer? Think again! T&R is here all summer long to support you with research tips and tricks.

Will you be working this summer, but your workplace does not have its own library staff? T&R is here – we can be your librarians all summer long.

Clinic work

Representing a client in an immigration, criminal, housing, business, civil rights, or other litigation matter? We have many resources, from MCLE publications to practical guidance, that can assist with your task. Reach out if you want to brainstorm about the resources that can help you serve your clients effectively and efficiently.

Preparing for exams

It is that time of year – exams are looming large. Are you looking for study aids? Outlines and more? For FREE????? T&R has you covered – check out the Study Aids and Exam Preparation Resources available through the Library. All at your fingertips.
